＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊Both Sides Now＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊＊ By Saudjie Cross Crook Balrion Weathertop June 2005
In August of 2003 John and I returned to North Wales with 16 year old Kiana and 10 Labradors including three American champions. We celebrate our sixth wedding anniversary in August. I think I’m the only American who has lived and breathed Labradors on both sides of the Pond. I have found that there are differences in the way the two countries breed and exhibit Labradors. There are differences in the Labradors themselves.
In regards to soundness this is what John said to me when we first began keeping company. “ When British breeders get together they talk dog. When American breeders get together they talk disease” British breeders do most of the same clearances as the Americans but they don’t spend as much time talking about it.
I find that the British Show Labrador is not the same Show Labrador that we have in the States. To understand this one must begin by examining the completely different ways we have of making up champions in the two countries.
